I Didn't Know She Had Lupus!!

Mercedes Yvette Scelba-Shorte of the second season of America's Next Top Model has lupus.  The 29 year old from New Jersey revealed that she had lupus on ANTM. Now working as a model and actress, Mercedes uses her celebrity to spread lupus awareness.  She was featured twice on the cover of the Lupus Foundation of America's Lupus Now Magazine.  She is a avid spokesperson and advocate of lupus.  
I remember watching the ANTM episode where she revealed that she had lupus.  I felt so sorry for her, but I didn't know much about the illness.  And that next year (2005) I was diagnosed.  Well, I am happy to see that she is thriving as a young talent, and is doing what she can for our cause.  She should be an inspiration to us all.  We can still achieve our dreams even with lupus weighing us down!! You are much more powerful than your illness, never forget that.

I didn't know she had lupus!!

Pietra Dawn Thornton, former wife of Billy Bob Thornton has lupus SLE.  She was a model for years, but gave it up after doing Playboy in January 1998. She decided that playboy/modelling was not what she wanted to do with her life.  She is a very talented writer, and has been since she was a child. Her creativity has stemmed from childhood as well. She has been struggling with Lupus for about 8+ years, but she still manages to live her life to the fullest.  Raising two boys while fighting lupus is difficult, but she gets it done.  She is a very strong and beautiful woman. We are proud of you Pietra, keep up the good work!!

Miami based Hip-Hop artist Trick Daddy has Lupus.  Trick Daddy, born Maurice Young on September 23, 1973, was diagnosed about 13 years ago.  He explained that his diagnosis has kept him out of the sun for years.  He says that sunlight is his worst enemy.

"I Didn't Know He Had Lupus!!"

Michael Jackson had Lupus...  He was diagnosed  in 1986 which was considered the beginning of the "The Bad Era".  Lupus is most likely the reason why he was seen many times walking with umbrellas on a sunny day, in a wheelchair, or wearing a surgical mask.  If the King of Pop could maintain, then so can we.  Reach for the stars!! Don't let it hold you back!!☺
